Six years ago, Keith was asked (and happily accepted) to put together a mix of blaxploitation-vibe songs made in the 21st century, as Volume 3 of a mix series on Paris DJs.

This is that mix, released six years ago to coincide with Big Pimp Jones' second freestyle album 'Jimmy Ruckus and the Five Fingers of Death'. Keith took a liberty or two and grabbed a song or two from the 90s but in general stayed true to the promise. The mix was specifically done with songs that were readily available at the time and shouldn't be that hard or expensive to track down today. Hope you enjoy!

Inspired by Sama's harmonica series, Keith begins a series of his own focusing on music from New Orleans (of varying levels of obscurity). First up, Keith takes a look at the discography of drummer Stanton Moore, a founding member of the funk band Galactic who has become a prolific recording artist, New Orleans ambassdor and respected drummer.

This is our third installment in the “Harp Series”, as Sama briefly covers the life history of the legendary Sonny Boy Williams II.

Hand Drawn Records is a name that may be familiar to people from Season One of the Vinyl Exam; a member of their team named Gabe was instrumental in getting Sama up to pro-level in terms of gluing records. This episode, Keith talks with Gabe on music, technology (and yes, a few record maintenance tips) and also discusses Hand Drawn Records itself, a company that not only serves as a record label but also a record pressing plant.

Thanks to Amber, Dustin and of course Gabe for taking some time to make this happen!

All tracks on the episode are from Hand Drawn, they are (in order):
Angel From Montgomery - Exit 380
Mama Don't - Screaming Thieves
South of France - Bravo Max!
Cry for Me - Charley Crockett
Pure Destroyer - war Party
Bubbles in my Beer - Wesley Geiger with the Texas Gentlemen

This episode, Keith discusses a trip he took last fall where he set a day aside to hit up five record stores in Portland, each of which has a unique spirit and personality. At the time it didn't really strike him how different the stores were, but fusing the idea of eclectic mixtapes and better know a record shop gives us the Eclectic City.

Our host Sama gives you a teaser of the sound he is going for in his upcoming afrobeat compilation.

Basa Basa - Homowo
Mad Man Jaga - Hankuri
The Apostles - Never Too Late

In this episode, Keith sits down with Junior from Recordbreakin Music (who is familiar to long-time listeners as the first-ever Vinyl Exam guest) to discuss music, making records and the upcoming projects to celebrate the label's 10-year anniversary.

The interview went long and we spoke on a number of subjects, so this is part one of the conversation.

And of course check out the main Recordbreakin site here: http://www.recordbreakin.com/videos/

take it with you

Iphone_trans Listening to podcasts on your mobile devices is extremely convenient -- and it's what makes the podcasting medium so powerful.

You can take your favorite shows and mixes with you anywhere, but to do so requires some quick and simple steps.

Let's walk you through that process together.
step 1:

Click the "Subscribe With iTunes" link in the page's sidebar:

Subscribe_with_itunes

This will require that you have the iTunes software on your computer.

(You can download iTunes here.)
step 2:
Itunes_ss

You can "get all" to download all available episodes or just individual episodes.
step 3:

Plug your mobile device (iPhone, iPad, iPod) into your computer with the Dock Connector cable, and click the device in iTunes's left navigation bar.

Itunes_ss2

Once you have your device highlighted, click "Podcasts" in the top navigation bar and sync the podcasts you want on your device. Click "apply" and the episodes you have downloaded on your iTunes software will sync with your device.
that's it!

The beauty of this process is that now, every new episode of your subscribed podcasts will automatically sync to your device every time you plug it in and open iTunes. You can now take your favorite shows with you everywhere you go.

Enjoy!
